Backing Up L4D2 Via The Steam Backup Utility.
Click this address: steam://backup
Click "BACKUP CURRENTLY INSTALLED GAMES" then "NEXT"
Tick "LEFT 4 DEAD 2" then "NEXT"
Choose a backup destination. (Make a new folder on your desktop.) Then hit "NEXT"
You'll be given a couple of extra options for weather you're using CD's or DVD's for backups.
It'll then do it's magic.
Burn the folder(s) to disc or copy to a USB stick.
Install Steam on the new machine (2meg download) and then use the backup util again but this time hit "RESTORE A GAME".
Easy.

Backing Up L4D2 Via The Steam Backup Utility.
Just a quick comment that you shouldn't be tempted to back up all your games in one big file / file series, at least if the backup system hasn't been updated. I tried doing that last winter in 30 GB lumps, and restoring them was either a pain, or simply didn't work at all.
The aim of all life is death.
