I considered doing a similar thing myself, especially given the amount of questions I've been getting over Teamspeak about the game. What I will say right now is that the complexity and story-driven nature of the missions substantially improves after passing the Lieutenant rank - which in retrospect seems like an extension of the tutorial in that you are still learning how the game works.
Unfortunately though, the fundamental nature of the missions is not that varied - so if you don't care for the story then you might be disappointed.
