Right... we've been chatting about it on Teamspeak for the last couple of nights, but there seems to be some interest in getting a group strategy game going. Something like Napeleon: Total War, Civilisation IV or basically any other game in which we can insist Bisi commands the Netherlands.

So - the floor is open. a) Are you interested. b) Do you have a suggestion for a game (bearing in mind we want the barrier to entry - i.e. price - to be as low as possible).

Which is more important, athe quality of the RTS or being able to command the Netherlands?
(Finland > Netherlands tbh.)

If you go to www.gamespot.com/pc you can sort by review score and game type (Shooter,Sports etc) to see which RTS's score the highest.

I find GameSpot to be very good for their reviews. http://pc.gametrailers.com/ are usually good too.
(You can sort by review score but I can't see a way of filtering the category.)

I'm not at home til next Saturday so I can't check out whats on Steam.

just as i was about to post something like this somebody already did it. Im up for pretty much any game tbh as i spend more time on RTS than shooters or mmo's. what kind of games would people prefer though in genre types. sci-fi? historic? modern day?

I for one wouldnt mind seeing people on supreme commander 2. Myself, aga and shak have it so far. You can get some pretty intense 4v4 games on their and teamplay is a MUST on that level.

I'd look forward to joining in on anything I own, so pretty much limited to older Total Wars, Company of Heroes or Supreme Commander/Forged Alliance.

Personally speaking, I'm hoping for for an empire-building type game, rather than an RTS - but I'll go with the flow.

Civ V due out in September, long time to wait, but would have the advantage that it would probably run on everything.

Be quite pricey though (compared to an older game).

Do I remember RA had a pbm Civ III game going at some point? How did that work out?

You do indeed. PBEM1 finished some time ago, PBEM2 and PBEM3 are still going, though I think the latter might finish soon (it turned into a very early game of cannibals). When that happens we'll possibly start PBEM4 - will post details on here if and when

Gaz + I have both installed Supreme Commander 2 but we're new to the game so give us a few days (read: weeks) to get the hang of it.

I've played through the first 2 tutorials and it's quite interesting. The explosions are surprisingly crap (considering the detail etc in the troops/units) but I reckon they've been scaled down because one of the key selling points of SC2 is the "loadsa units on screen at once!".
(Obviously hundreds of explosions on screen =framerate issues.)

I can continue with my learning of the game on either Saturday or Sunday night (depending).

Words of wisdom are welcome here.

Ill be on pretty much all weekend due to money issues on new car turning up a LOT sooner than expected so im up for any multiplayers so you can get used to it.

Also any questions you have about each of the factions, units specific research points, fire away

Is the consesus SC2 then?

not sure if everyones getting it, but its a short term solution i guess since bigger titles are coming at the end of summer. Also just seen a review of shogun total war 2, still in production pretty much but looks immense
