Arma: Armed Assault

Remember the days when we used to play Operation Flashpoint? We were the elite team of soldiers. The AI were the buggers who killed us a lot.
40 players take on 250 AI units in Arma

A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

I'm really missing playing a less hectic more strategic co-op game like Operatoin Flashpoint. Are there any good ones on the market at the moment?

Of the two I prefer Arma2, although in fairness I haven't given OpFlash much of a go.
If you get hold of the demo we can give it a spin some time.

Have downloaded Operation Flashpoint: Rise of the Dragon, or something of the like. You can fight Chinese which is something very much in tune with my usual state of mind.

Heard from our Benno that it wasn't much cop, too much of a console influence. But if you're still playing that in a few months time when there's some cash in the bank, would be interested!

I enjoy games like this that require mass co-ordination. But Flashpoint was a little too far into the realm of realism for my liking.
It was common to be shot from 3 miles away by a dude who had heard you jump over a fence.
Give me a game with elements from PlanetSide, WoW, Flashpoint and CoD and we'll talk.
(Vehicles, mass team-work, varied weaponry/roles, decent graphics and draw-distance.)
Also, the guys in the posted video don't SEEM to know what's going on for the most part.
I thought one guy was a bot as he tried to scramble over that ammo cache.

Operation Flashpoint 2 is basically the console kiddies version of Arma.
I see Dy's point about dieing for no apparent reason, but there's still something utterly awesome about being one of 50 human players storming a CPU-enemy held fortification.

Oh good, oh I thought it was just me being very very crap.

Maybe if they had a Kill Cam like in the CoD series so you could see who killed you, how and where from... it wouldn't be so bad.

Love this version though, great fun even on single player. Very tactical, how good a shot you are is actually rather irrelevant, it's where you attack from or where you defend that makes all the difference. I'm really loving it.

Wonder if the Arma II Demo is still available on Steam? Oh look - yes it is.
Can I persuade peeps to give it another shot?
