So, while we wait for the end of our final competition in FM11 (will the Argies give Spain the kicking that I expect??), I wanted to start the chat going for the online game on the new version (which I assume that we are having...)

I had an idea to use the editor to create a special league, set-up especially for our multiplayer games. This league would be one not already in the game, be set up similar to the Scottish league in that we play each other four times a season rather than two (so more pvp) and we can set how much money, reputation etc we all start with so that we all start on an equal footing.

Any objections thus far?

Personaly I would like a week or two to get the feel of the new version.
But I like the league suggestion. Maybe we could emulate those russian goons.

Not too sure on the new league suggestion. A few questions jump in mind:

1. Will we just insert top teams or create our own ones?
2. Will there be relegation fights? If not how do we keep it exciting for those not fighting for the top places any more after a few months?
3. Will there be European places, if so can we avoid those in the first season?

Personally I feel that creating our own league might reduce the involvement in the football world which is any way part of what this all depends upon. We might get more satisfaction out of making a known team overpeform within it's standards and reference points, rather than create a whole new set of reference points. Having 5 teams consisting out of top players, for me, does not come close to muddling on with decent players and be excited of getting that star in, or finding that talent no one else spotted. With high level teams we will not really do this as we will not get 6 seasons in and need new talent or real improvements to the team, it will reduce it more to a tactics game, which is great for short tournaments like the WC but reduces the experience a bit for a long term game.

I'm in favour of starting in the second tier of a top competition allowing for growth and allowing for attraction of known players. The Championship was perfect for that as there is a little bit of money, you can attract decent players and many teams are on same level in terms of reputation and quality of players.

That's just the way I see it of course.

tbh I don't have any answers to any of those questions.

What I will say is that I've had a play with the database/editor, and it isn't as easy as I'd hoped. It's ok to add something in, but not easy to create something that meshes properly into the rest of the game without crashing later on.

It's probably easier just to use an existing league in all honesty.

There's plenty of countries with smaller divisions that we could play if that's what we want to do.

Allright, we had our honeymoon period with the new game, time to start thinking about what team Bisi is going to ruin with his brilliant tactics which almost but not quite are entirely unlike anything us humans have seen on a Football pitch, which oldies or fried potatoes Stumpy-Twat is going to abuse, what excuses Tal will find for injuring his Arse again, and how Shepp will try to avoid league mediocrity by outwitting even his own players which unsurprisingly boomeranged mostly Bisi in the face. Short of letting Aga start a league higher just to anticipate the inevitable here my two cents on what I would like to do:

Personally no great fan of starting in obscure leagues with completely unknown players. I like it in my single player game but in the multpiplayer for me part of the charm is to be able to find the unknown gem and laugh at Stumpy because he though that Owen is still playing football.

Would like to suggest 2 options. The first one is just do the same thing we did with previous version, get some teams out of the Championship with a similar random pick. Either take a team out of another European top league, either Spain or Italy, once again, we take our favourites and pick out.

This will allow us a limited budget amount (in transfer money rather varried but in salary we should be able to at least get some decent players in) but also a decent quality in football. Going lower league or lower standard will not help us in tactics variety, it's kick and rush wherever you play.

If we really want to go crazy we could do something like the Belgian league, teams are crap, but there are some decent players round and the rather ridiculous (I remain convinced Bis has been involved in it's creation) league format can potentially allow for more than 2 games between human players.

I'm happy to go with the flow, although I do like the idea of starting another league rather than the usual European. (MLS might not be a bad shout, they have a bit of cash to spend.)

I'd rather not do England again. My vote would be some obscure league that no-one has any knowledge of, but I don't see that idea getting any support. In which case i'm flexible, i'd just rather stay away from your massive leagues like Span, Italy and the like.

So, we don't get to an actual suggestion.

Suggest to keep other leagues open (I don't think it slows it down too much) so we can swap if we don't like it.

Let's do like last time, run 1 year of holiday, everyone picks 2 teams (not enough teams for everyone to pick 3) and then it's a lottery.

For merely suggesting that team choice, Aga, I will next time that I see you, use you as a punching bag, I know that happened a lot in your youth and I know it must be hard to go through life having to avoid mirrors all the time in order to not go blind but hey, to explain to the others it would be like having to play Everton when a Liverpool fan but to the 3rd degree.

Forgot to add, whomever picks Beerschot, I will do everything in my power to ensure they go down, including supporting/getting fired depending on how crap the manager is, steal players, declare interest in all players, buy 11 crowbars, etc etc.

Unless Bisis gets them, then I will do everything in my power to let them win.
