T'is common knowledge this Mr. Chez.

Am banned for cheating on Modern Ware 2... a game I don't actually own.

Valve did one of their ban waves many moons ago and accidentally banned people who were innocent. A week later the bans were removed for 95% of those affected.

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2010/07/27/valve-apologizes-to-banned-modern-warfare-2-players-offers-free-games/

Quote:
As many as 12,000 "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" players found themselves on the wrong end of a ban hammer recently via Steam. Unlike Blizzard's 320,000-account Battle.net ban spree in April, however, Valve's software targeted "MW2" players wrongly, which the company freely admits. In fact, they're restoring the banned accounts and even offering complimentary copies of "Left 4 Dead 2" as tokens of their regret.

The remained 5% (myself included) where stuck with the bans and when contacted I received "tough shit" emails from Valve.

Not a great way to treat your customers, especially one that's purchased every single title you've published but like I said before, I don't own MW2 and don't intend to (I finished it on the 360) so I'm not too bothered by being unable to access MW2 servers.

I may email them again actually but I doubt they'll remove the taint from my profile page.

Furry muff. And I wasn't accusing you of anything, just hoping there'd be some juicy story behind it rather than a silly mistake.

That whole VAC system is pretty irritating to be honest, and definitely a scratch against Valve/Steam. It shows up as a blotch on your account, but then there's absolutely no info associated with it, not even when or which game the ban is associated with.

In other news, I really wish there was some way in games like L4D to ban people from your own list. At least in Valve's other server-based games you could always just frequent a server you trusted to have rational admins to keep the twats out, but with playing such a lobby game there's always a chance you can end up with some absolute numpty on the server, whether they be hacking, griefing or just plain social retards. I want my personal blacklist!

Don't believe so. No I mean I'd love to have a way of blacklisting people in L4D who I didn't want to play with again. I remember once being on a team with two Russians who clearly considered themselves pros, and complained incessantly at the fourth person on our team for being bad. We played through three stages of the game, them voting to kick him two-three times a map, before they finally decided to let him die to a Hunter in the last stage. As a result, he left, and then they voted and kicked me for having stood up for him earlier. Similarly I've played with plenty who have left screaming "fucking noobs" mid-way through a game, or people just griefing by killing themselves/stealing health packs/shooting teammates etc. etc.

It'd just be nice if there were a way to blacklist those SteamIDs such that I can't join any server/lobby they are in, nor they join any server/lobby I am in. Instead they just join the faceless crowd of fuckers who occasionally get on my tits under any number of pseudonyms they can come up with, and there isn't a whole right lot I can do about it. Think that's why I took to only playing on Friends-Only servers some time ago Laugh

A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

Possibly integrating the block functionality of the friends list to include a non friends list.
So when you ignore a player you cant be grouped with them would be an easy solution.

Yes-indeedy, I'm sure it'd be easily feasible. Friends-only games work fine - I just want a Steam Enemies list to match it. Cool
