Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

Is anyone planning to pick this up? Does anyone know if it's good on multiplayer?
I'm only a little bit French...

I'll probably download it and give the single player a bash.
(If it's anything like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare... then it'll be an excellent title.
I never bothered with the multiplayer on that one but heard very good things about it.)

I can't afford Novembers line-up at all.
(Left 4 Dead 2, Modern Warfare 2, Assassins Creed 2, and there's something else but I forget.)

Hopefully there'll be a MW2 demo or two. (SP + MP)

I'm reading terrible things about the multiplayer on PC. Basically, they're doing away with the dedicated server setup which has become the norm and instead insisting that games are hosted on client machines (probably the result of console porting and not wanting to do anything unique to the PC)

Not a clever move. But then it's not like the Xbox people are going to be hosting their games, why pull the plug specifically on PC support?

I suspect that firms are trying to unify as much of their code as they possibly can to keep support and development costs down. It makes sense in an environment in which the biggest developers are struggling but is pish from the customer point of view.

It's probably worth pointing out that the 'community gamer' doesn't make up a substanital part of any games online population. The vast majority are casual gamers who will play where they're given and not think twice about it.

At the same time, I enjoy the idea that firms are going to have to explain port forwarding to a massive chunk of their gamers - especailly those who play on a console via a wireless router.

Well I can certainly understand their wish to keep the code as similar as possible, and thereby keep costs down. I was rather amused to see that the latest Aliens vs Predator game has been pulled from release here in Germany, since the publisher doesn't think it'll get a certificate, so they won't bother making a less gory L4D2-style version, and instead save themselves the localisation costs and just not bother at all!

But do I understand it right that players themselves will be hosting the MW2 games they play? Seems like a very odd and limited way of going about things - if the host decides to go down the pub, do 17 other players get chucked off mid-game?

Either way, that game really fucking flew off the shelves didn't it!

I'm playing through Modern Warfare 2 at the moment and highly enjoying it.
I'll submit a review when Tal fixes the site. Smile

On the subject of the dedicated servers... does this make things easier or harder for people to play online who haven't paid for the game? I've seen loads of games that require authentication of some kind that work fine online provided you use a slightly different service.

The cracked version of Borderlands works fine online provided you make a GameSpy ID... which takes 8 seconds.

Back to Modern warfare 2 though... once again the idiotic Steam "Community" decided to boycott the game because of the lack of dedicated servers.
Here's the definition of BOYCOTT from Dictionary.com :
Quote:
1. to combine in abstaining from, or preventing dealings with, as a means of intimidation or coercion: to boycott a store.
2. to abstain from buying or using: to boycott foreign products.

In other words, boycotting Modern Ware 2 means not buying and not playing it.

As much as I like Valve and the Steam way of doing things.. their community is a bunch of utter retards.
(We saw this in a BIG way when the L4D2 demo was delayed with their topics titled "OMFG I TOK A DAY OF WORK TO PLAY DIS!".)

Anyways, back to Modern Warfare 2 Big Grin
